HISTORY 104

GOVERNMENT, MODERN HISTORY AND POLITICAL SYSTEMS.
Taught every other year (see schedule and costs).

A Multi-credit Western Civilization course covering modern history (especially European) from 1700 to the present with emphasis on political systems. This is a Junior/Senior level course with focus on American government principles and reading the great works on political theory from the Bible and Plato to Locke and de Tocqueville. The reading material includes entire books and class time involves interacting with the authors on subject matter pertaining to political systems.

History 104 class meets in two 1½ -hour sessions a week every other year alternating with American History. In addition, as part of the course there is one 1½ hour Literature Seminar per month. It is a mandatory part of the course but there is no extra tuition for the Literature Seminar when it is taken as part of this course. This course is part of the God’s Tapestry Multi-Credit curriculum and the student receives 3 credits: Western Civilization, Modern period; Government; English Literature.

Because of the more difficult and abstract reading material this is recommended for upper level students.
